I am an educator, professional development designer, consultant and amateur theorist.

My work has led me to:

  • write a book for Rowman and Littlefield about artistic design theory in project-based learning
  • design and teach a multi-disciplinary, project-based program at my school in Hawai'i;
  • teach a graduate-level course in project-based learning;
  • create an immersive, week-long professional development workshop (which is now partnered with Envision schools) for educators hoping to learn more about student-centered education;
  • help found an exciting and innovative charter school in Hawaii;
  • and provide consultation for a new project-based school opening next year in Atlanta.

Ultimately, the goal of education should be to enable kids to be their own teachers - and to enable teachers to be good students.

I want kids to be imaginative, self-directed, and passionate about knowledge;

I want kids to practice science like a scientist, and history like historians;

and I want kids to push each other out of the way to be the first in the door for school.

This website houses much of the work I have done over the past few years to challenge the thinking (including my own) on the ways children learn best - and of course, how this applies to adult learning.

In addition to the pages and videos linked in this website, you may find my educational blog here, my vimeo channel here and my youtube channel here.
